Dir Diuri...
By posting these, I know I'm breaking some sacred law of diary secrecy (or perhaps I'm obeying the natural law of maternal nosiness), but I came across these diary entries that Tillie wrote and had to share. I had no idea she was keeping a diary. They are so cute!
Dear Diary,
On my birthday, I got fish--3 fish. But, now I've got 2 because one died. And, I said, "Oh no! Two fish! Aaaaah, this is not good!"
Dear Diary,
One day, I had a horrible day. I said "Waaah, very bad!" It's because I didn't get to be a star student and I did not have any recess or any center time AND I went to my room.

Domestic Demigoddess
I feel like a homemaking genius when I bake fancy things. But I feel even sneakier when I'm still able to accomplish fanciness and there's supposedly "nothing" in the house to eat. Last night, I cleaned out the fridge and found all the ingredients to make a spinach mushroom bacon quiche--yum!

Thunder
Django sneaks in at night while we are sleeping and makes a little nest under our bed when there's a thunderstorm.

Weaver
This weekend, Tillie wove a little purse using a pot holder loom she got from her grandma. We had to get out my loom from when I was a little girl to complete the second side. I think that one was from Grandma too!

Last Day of Summer
The most-delicious-snow-cone stand served us for the last time this year. Six more months until summer is here again--boo hoo! Fun fact: Django likes to order his snow cones, not by flavor, but by super-hero color scheme. This one is a Superman--red, blue, and yellow (though it quickly became rainbow after diffusive mixing).

Geometry Problem
1. Imagine that you are building a chicken coop and want to place it in your backyard. Your very attentive neighbor points out that, in order to meet city code, the coop must be no fewer than 50 feet from any neighboring residence. Draw a plan of your property and the properties of your three nearest neighbors, being sure to accurately depict the proportion and location of each residence. Shade in the areas in which you cannot legally place the coop. How much area is left over? Is it large enough to contain the coop that you already spent a month painstakingly building? Does its location within this area of your yard look ridiculous? How sad and defeated do you feel? Show your work. (Hint: You might want to use a 50-foot string to check your answer in your actual backyard.)
